As summer is approaching, if you're ready for a change, and want a hobby that's rewarding, fun, and productive, one hobby to try is beekeeping. More and more people are turning towards raising their own meat, fruit and organic gardens. Honey is an excellent source for all kinds of uses. And you can produce your own honey and profit from it, harvest the honey for yourself or give it as a gift to others. Home made honey is very special!

Beekeeping is a fantastic hobby. Those who get into beekeeping often get what is called "bee fever." Beekeeping has many facets and gives people the opportunity to learn more about nature and the honey bee. Not only will you have the benefit of pollination for your garden, but you will also harvest delicious honey!

Honey bees and other pollinators are the vital link in the process of taking pollen (male element) from one flower to the receptive stigma (female element) of another flower so that pollination, and then fertilization, takes place.

If this transfer does not take place, fruits, nuts, vegetables, seeds and berries can not develop with the resultant loss of food for humans, animals and plant diversity that keeps us alive. This is all pretty important, and can start with you being a beekeeper.

So how do you get started in beekeeping?

You should first get a mentor. Get someone who has already started with this hobby and can give you a wealth of information and guidance.
