Yes, now you too can play your favorite songs as ringtones for your iPhone. The process is a little bit complicated but nothing that an average iPhone user cannot handle. What's more, you don't have to pay anything to get these ringtones. That's probably the best news you've heard in a long time, I reckon!
If you've got a stack full of songs in your music library then they can easily be converted into ringtones for your iPhone, more importantly if they fall under the non DRM category which would mean that they are not under Digital Rights Management. Tracks that are not under DRM can be converted into ringtones with the help of iTunes and voila! Your iPhone will then play all your favourite tracks that you've always wanted to hear in it.
Step one is to launch iTunes on your computer. This method works well for both Mac users as well as Windows PC users. Now you need to search for the song that you want to use as a ringtone. Once you've chosen the song, you need to listen to it, and choose the part that you'd like to hear play as a ringtone on your iPhone. Once you've picked your favourite part, just make a note of the start time and end time, of the part selected and then right click on the song and select the 'Get Info' option.
Now continue with the process by clicking on the 'Options' tab and then enter the start time of the clip that you have chosen. For example, your start time could be 1:50 which is, one minute and fifty seconds. Then also enter the end time to the clip of your choice and make sure that it does not go over 40 seconds. Now right click on the song again and choose the 'Convert selection to AAC' option. iTune will now create a duplicate of your ringtone, keep the duplicate copy and delete the original.
Now find the duplicate on iTunes. You may have to follow the following path: Music- iTunes- iTunes Music. Do note that is will have an extension of 'm4a'. All you have to do is replace that extension with m4r which is nothing but the ringtone format for the iPhone. You're done! The simplest thing to do then is to double click on the ringtone which will then automatically be added by iTunes as a ringtone in your ringtones folder in the iTunes Music Library.
Now all you have to do is to connect your iPhone to iTunes and transfer the ringtones. Voila! Do remember to do this only with songs that do not fall under Digital Rights Managements. Otherwise, it can be an illegal activity such as piracy.
