Professional negligence is a unique part of the law. There are many examples of professionals who used the services of law firms in order to deal with the negligence claims against them. It is very essential to appoint skilled and practised lawyers when one has to face professional negligence claims.

Professional negligence may include any kind of ill treatment with a customer or client, avoidance of any official law or lack of professional attitude in providing professional services on behalf of professionals. Any professional including builders, doctors, nurses, engineers, and architects can commit professional negligence, etc.

If a person who has had an encounter with a worker, at some point thinks that there was a let down on the part of the employee, which caused a loss to him, professional negligence can be claimed against that particular employee. The loss can be fiscal or just not getting the accurate service.

Most commonly, the professionals against whom claims are made include those who offer some kind of service. Examples include barristers, solicitors, surveyors, financial advisors, project managers, architects, and consultants. The fact that professional negligence cases are often not mentioned does not mean that these cases do not exist. The reason is that professional negligence is a specialist's area, and is not widely published.

Another example is of a surveyor fails to identify faults in a property and does not perform his survey properly in a professional manner; a claim of professional negligence can be made against him. Similarly, if a solicitor loses his legal case, his client can register a claim of lack of professionalism against him/ her.

In many instances, financial advisors and service providers face professional negligence claims. The reason behind this is that they are the ones who often miss-sell products like pensions, loans, portfolios and others. In cases where people are misled into buying financial products, claims against the professionals can be made for their negligence.

In case of construction projects and jobs, there can be instances in which there is something wrong with the quality of the construction or the timing. In these cases, claims are often made against the architects as well as the builders and engineers for their negligence in performing their job.

A lot of liability and accountability towards the fulfilment of the customers is there especially in case of professionals who are in advisory and consultancy. Thus, there may be cases in which claims are made against professionals for providing negligent tax advices. Such types of cases are most common for professional negligence in the field of the inheritance tax planning.
