Impaired driving is not a charge you want to have against you. First you might kill someone if you are drinking and driving or driving under the influence of alcohol. Depending upon your weight it takes at least one hour per drink for your body to metabolize the alcohol in one drink.

All types of alcohol have the same amount of alcohol as far as waiting the one hour is concerned. If you drink one glass of whisky you have to wait one hour. If you drink one glass of wine you have to wait one hour. If you drink one beer you have to wait one hour. And that means if you drink three drinks you wait three hours not one hour after your third drink.

It does not meant that you wait one hour after your last drink either. It is one hour per drink that you have to wait for you body to absorb the alcohol. If you do drive under the influence of drinking it is better that you are pulled over by the cops rather than getting into an accident and hurting yourself and others. But you will have to go through a field sobriety test. You will have to walk the straight line or blow into a device to measure your blood alcohol level.

You will have to wait in jail a number of hours before you can be released. You will not have your license returned to you. Your license will be sent to the department of motor vehicles.

You will have to deal with the traffic court and the DMV. The court will sentence you and fine you. The department of motor vehicles will suspend your license no matter what the traffic court decides to do.

Your auto insurance will take a big hit and you can expect to pay at least double in auto insurance than you now paying. And if you take a lawyer with you to traffic court they do not work for free. You will pay on average over a thousand dollars for a lawyer to go to court with you.

It is much safer and cheaper if you take a cab if you have been drinking. This all is if this is your first offense. A second offense will cost you a lot more.
